Saudi’s executed cleric’s brother condemns attacks on missions

The brother to Nimr al-Nimr, a Shia cleric, who was executed in Saudi Arabia at the weekend on Monday condemns attacks on the kingdom’s diplomatic missions in Iran.

The attacks which were said to be in retaliation for the killing of the cleric were condemned by the brother, Mohammed al-Nimr, who insisted that although the thoughts of their brother still lives in their hearts, they love their country.

“We love our country”

“We appreciate your love towards the martyr #Sheikh_AlNimr who lives in our hearts but we refuse attacks on #Saudi embassies in #Iran or others,” al-Nimr tweeted in English.

The Tribune of UK reported that angry demonstrators attacked the Saudi embassy in Tehran and its consulate in Mashhad following the execution of Nimr, who spearheaded the anti-government protests in 2011.

Sunni-ruled Saudi Arabia responded on Sunday by severing diplomatic ties with Shia-dominated Iran, its long-time regional rival.
Nimr, 56, was executed along with 46 other men, mostly Sunnis linked to al Qaeda.

His body was not given for his family for burial, according to another post on Twitter by his brother, who said authorities informed the family that the cleric had already been buried.

Meanwhile, thousands of Shia faithful in Bauchi on Sunday protested the killing of the prominent Shia cleric, Sheikh Nimr, by the Saudi regime.

The protesters also demanded the immediate release of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, wife and hundreds of followers who are allegedly unjustly being detained by the Nigerian Army.

The protesters were seen on various streets of Bauchi city carrying the placards “we are all Nimr” and ” Free Zakzaky.”

It would be recalled that Shi’ites members had clashed with the Nigerian Army recently during which many of them were killed.

Their leader, Ibrahim El-zakyzaky, was subsequently taken into custody by the army before he was released to the police for investigation.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, told The PUNCH that the Shi’ite members were being prosecuted for incitement and public disturbances among other charges.

She said, “Some Shi’ite members have been arraigned in court where they were charged with criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbances among others; they have been remanded in prison custody and the case adjourned.”

The army had accused the Shi’ite followers of attempting to assassinate the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, but the Islamic movement said soldiers simply attacked “defenseless people.”

Following the bloody clash, armoured tanks were said to have demolished the Hussainiyya shrine and the residence of the leader of the sect in Zaria.

She went into my travel bag and took out a pair of my own socks, put a bow on them then presented it to me as an xmas gift. 'I assumed it was a gag gift type scenario and laughed. She was deeply offended that I didn't appreciate her efforts to show me that I was welcome in the family.' While it isn...
