Munster Rugby head coach Anthony Foley has died suddenly at their team hotel in Paris. Foley, 42, died overnight at the hotel, where the team were staying prior to Sunday's game against Racing 92. The European Champions Cup game was postponed following the former Ireland international's death. A statement by the Irish Rugby Football Union said: "The IRFU and Munster Rugby pass on our deepest sympathy to all of Anthony's family and friends." It added: "We ask for privacy for the family at this sad time." Foley is survived by his wife Olive and two children.

At least 25 inmates have been killed in clashes between two rival factions in an overcrowded prison in northern Brazil. Seven of the dead were beheaded and six others burned to death, a police official said. The incident in Boa Vista, the capital of Roraima state, happened during visiting hours. Some 100 visitors who were taken as hostages have been freed and the riot has ended, the reports added. The state government said it was waiting for a prisoner count to confirm the death toll. The violence started when inmates broke into another section of the prison where members of a different faction were being held, Capt Falkner Ferreira was quoted as saying by G1 website. The prisoners were armed with knives and wooden sticks, a witness said. Reports say there are 1,400 inmates currently in the prison, which has a capacity of up to 740. Brazil has the world's fourth largest prison population, with some 600,000 inmates.

A Benin-based socio-cultural and political monitoring group, Edo Lens, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate in the recent governorship election in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to accept defeat at the polls. This was contained in a statement issued after the group’s spokesman, Mr. Destiny Evbakoe, addressed newsmen in Benin City on Sunday. He said the call by the group was necessitated by the findings of the organisation that the PDP candidate did not prepare well for the election. Arinze, who was a guest on Emannuel Ugolee’s TV show, The Gist, maintained that it was becoming worrisome for him and some veteran actors seeing what is now being descibed as new Nollywood by today’s thespians. Ido Division of the Ekiti State police command came under attack by yet to be identified gunmen in the night of Friday and killed a police Inspector on duty and looted the armoury of the police station. Sources at the police station told newsmen in Ido-Ekiti, headquarters of Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday that the gunmen numbered about 40 and had shot indiscriminately on entry to the police station premises, causing extensive damage. The source at the station also said that the gunmen had attacked the station with dynamite, which destroyed doors, equipment and the roof of the station, which has caused the policemen to be working under a tree there. The police source said: “They drove in recklessly through the gate. Some of them had scaled the fence and took over the entire police station. Some of them even scaled the fence and took strategic  positions around the station, shot into the air sporadically and destroyed virtually every room and office....

She says their cook leaves on Saturday mornings to go and see his family, and when he leaves she makes the move to cook, but her caring husband stops her from doing so and encourages them to eat out. She also said she works on Sundays before now, but that has also stopped because he has advised her to use that day to always rest. President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday while represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka inaugurated the first major solar power plant in the country at the University of Ibadan. While speaking at the inauguration, Anwuka said, “Today’s groundbreaking ceremony is a culmination of more than two years of negotiation involving UI, the Federal Government and German government. This is why the FG, through TETFund, has committed itself to this project with the provision of funds.” The plant has the capacity to supply 10 megawatts of renewable electricity to the university community and its environs when completed.

Police in northern India say a stampede early Saturday outside a Hindu temple has killed at least 19 people. The stampede happened as hundreds of devotees of Indian guru Jai Gurudev gathered in Varanasi, a Hindu holy town in Uttar Pradesh state, a place known for its temples. Police officer S.K. Bhagat said organizers expected about 3,000 people to attend the ceremony, but more than 70,000 turned out. Police started turning back people from an overcrowded bridge, triggering a rumor among the devotees that the bridge had collapsed and causing throngs of people to run for safety. Television footage showed colorful clothing piled up with police officers trying to clear debris. "There was a lot of chaos. All of us were pushed and shoved.
